After our trip to London last month, we all came back looking forward to the afternoon tea experience. The city has a couple of great options, but in our minds, Cambridge Tea House is one of the best places for traditional afternoon tea in Columbus, so we made a reservation for Mother’s Day morning!
You’ll find Cambridge Tea House on Fifth Avenue in Marble Cliff. It has a well appointed dining room and patio that is cozy and elegant without feeling too stuffy.
They offer an all-day breakfast menu, lunches and different levels of afternoon tea service.
Tea service included You Prince or Princess (a children’s version with sandwiches, sweets and a drink), the Cambridge cream tea (tea and scones), the Tea and sweets (a two-tiered tray with tea with scones and a trio of sweets) i afternoon tea (the tray full of three levels with sandwiches, scones and sweets plus tea).
I love the designs on their china.
And it’s hard to argue with them scones with homemade jam and cream. Now, you can’t legally make real clotted cream in the US (because it’s made with unpasteurized cream), but Cambridge’s version comes very close.
Their 10-item breakfast menu ranges from plain scones and a cottage cheese or bacon plate to crepes, sandwiches and omelets.
The egg and cheese breakfast sandwich it is served on homemade bread with a rosemary aioli; you can add bacon or avocado.
The crepes from the teahouse they come in a quartet of sweet or savory flavors. Check out Nutella, Banana and Strawberry here.
You’ll also find a trio of tortillas. This is the bacon and cheddar omelette. It is served with a side of toast or tea and fruit.
And of course, there are all kinds of beautiful desserts to enjoy!
There is a full lunch menu with sandwiches, salads and soups. They also do special menus linked to events or parties, as well as cakes, catering and Posh Picnics that you can enjoy at home.
The Cambridge Tea House is currently open Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am to 3pm (the kitchen often closes at 2.30pm)
