Hello friends! I decided to make a throwback style post today and write about a fun run I had recently!
(I know I’ve been writing a bit more about running lately since I’m training for a half marathon in mid-March, but usually just as a mention in a post about something else.)
I used to do recap posts all the time back when I was posting more frequently, and sometimes I miss making faster, more casual posts like this one! So, in honor of half marathon training, let’s do that.
On Monday, right after taking the kids to school, I went for a great run with my friend Katie (whose kids go to school with mine). And yes, I know it feels like SUCH a gift to be able to do runs right after you drop them off instead of at 6am.
I do a lot of 6am yoga classes these days, but when running, it’s so nice to run in the light or in the dark.
Anyway, Katie and I run together every Monday and it’s been a really nice routine. This Monday was an absolutely glorious treat of a day too!
Hello Sunshine! I have a feeling it was a bit of a gray winter so this was much appreciated.
Katie and I only covered a few miles in our neighborhood for Monday’s runs, but since we’re both training for the half marathon, we’ve started to increase the distance.
More distance is fun because it allows us to ride more interesting routes/loops!
This week we walked from Del Ray through Old Town Alexandria and down to the waterfront. It was lovely down there.
Lauffreunde FTW. I enjoy running with company more and more!
From the waterfront we headed north to the Mt. Vernon Trail, with nicer water views along the way.
We exited the Mt. Vernon Trail at Slater’s Lane and drove through that area back to Del Ray.
This was such a great run – I felt really good the whole time and it gave me confidence that maybe in March I’ll be able to actually run 13.1 miles for the first time since 2016.
We made it 6 miles and I felt like I could have gone on! It’s still a long way to 13, I know, but I’m making progress and it’s a good feeling.
Post-run I’ve been craving avocado toast a lot lately — this one had avocado puree, a little lemon juice, salt and pepper, fried egg, and microgreens on toast.
Great combo and my go-to place lately.
And that’s all I have for you today! I hope you’re having a great weekend and we’ll see you back here next week.
ps If you need some food inspiration for this weekend, check out this post: My Favorite Healthy Super Bowl Snack Recipes. I probably won’t actually watch the game, but we’re taking the kids to a friend’s house on Sunday afternoon for a game date and Super Bowl snack session, which will be fun!
