Today we want to share with you our recipe for Vegan Matcha Brownies, an exciting twist on the classic American brownies. If you love green tea, you’ll love using matcha powder in these gooey treats. And they are not only delicious, but also super healthy!
Matcha (aka powdered green tea leaves) is not only great for making tea, but it’s also a fantastic addition to sweet treats and desserts. It gives a bittersweet and slightly nutty taste with every bake, including these delicious brownies.
Using matcha powder in recipes is very simple. Think of it like cocoa powder: a scoop or two is enough to add color and flavor to your batter or dough. In this case, matcha gives our brownies a greenish tint and a grassy aftertaste. Just by looking at them, you know you’re in for a ton of plant-based goodness!
As well as swapping out cocoa for green tea powder, we made a few other tweaks to the classic recipe to get our brownies 100% vegan and healthy. We’ve tried to use as many healthy, plant-based ingredients as possible without compromising on taste.
For example, we substituted nut butter for butter Keep fats down, and we used bean puree and bananas to give our brownies a deliciously creamy feel. That means our matcha brownies are too flour free and gluten free.
Not only are beans great for texture, but they also fortify these brownies with lots of plant-based proteins. With a single brownie square, you get almost three times more protein than with a regular chocolate brownie – awesome!
