So let’s see what ingredients make this recipe so special.
the egg
If you follow this cheesy scrambled egg recipe to the letter, I promise you’ll have perfect scrambled eggs in no time! Choose fresh eggs, and always try to choose free-range if you can – and here’s why…
(I want to talk about eggs here, and how important (and controversial) they are.) Be warned: once you peek behind the curtain, there’s no going back. So if you just want the recipe, just skip below. If you’re wondering where the eggs actually are. (If you want to know more about what it comes from, read on.)
To put it succinctly, while some ‘free-range’ or ‘organic’ chickens live in better conditions than most, there are deeper problems than the dire conditions of many factory farms.
Over time, farmed chickens now generally fall into two categories: chickens bred for meat or chickens bred for eggs.
When it comes to egg-laying hens, men have no advantage. They are neither big nor fat enough to grow fast enough for meat, so what about them?
They die soon after birth – within a day. Untold millions of babies were sent to be gassed, suffocated or macerated by a grinder. All in the name of efficiency. It’s a bad world.
In Germany, a few organizations have been created to save young males – the Bruderhann (Brother Chickens) for one, where they keep the males alive with their female partners – at least for a while.
I have yet to find a similar organization in the US, but if you know of one, I’d love to hear about it!
Long story short – think about where your eggs come from and then decide which ones you buy. Every step to help you helps. No matter how small.
cheese
Go for a cheddar or even Monterey Jack to get that perfect creamy cheesy egg. (I’m asking you to refrain from eating the tricky part of this recipe before it’s ready).
butter
The best cheesy scrambled eggs should have some melted butter. This is really the secret ingredient here to get soft scrambled eggs.
It’s simple tips like these that make super easy recipes so much tastier than others.
Seasoning
Okay, so you already know this, but it’s just as important to season your eggs with a pinch of salt and black pepper, just like you would any other dish. This is a quick step but an important one.
Whole grain toast
You’ve made your delicious egg breakfast, now you need a bed to lay them on. I can’t think of anything better than a thick slice of whole grain toast!
And whole grains are important because they’re full of fiber, so they’re great for your digestive system and help keep you full until lunch.

Scrambled Eggs with Cheese FAQ
Ever had a cracking question about scrambled eggs? We’ve got you covered!
1 large egg contains 78 calories.
A large egg contains 6 grams of protein.
No, I would not recommend making scrambled eggs ahead of time. It only takes about 5 minutes, so for that short time I would recommend making it fresh it will taste better!
Again, for 5 minutes, I would always recommend freshening your eggs. However, if you have leftovers and want to use them the next day, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge.
To reheat, pop in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or until piping hot.
My favorite way to serve scrambled eggs is with a nice slice of whole-grain toast. But you can also use other types of bread, for example sourdough.
I choose a whole grain variety because it has a higher fiber level so it will help me feel fuller for longer than bog-standard white bread.
There are many opinions out there, but the top type of cheese to go with scrambled eggs would ideally be a variety that is either creamy and mild, or gooey and slightly salty.
For example, cheddar, feta, goat cheese, pecorino or cream cheese.
Variety of recipes
The main parts that can be changed in this simple recipe, I think, are the type of cheese you want to try or the toppings. I currently have mine without the topping, but you can always add some fresh chives, or fresh parsley.
You can sprinkle some paprika on top, or how about a dash of Sriracha or Worcestershire sauce to add a little kick?

We reduced the amount of cheese and butter for this recipe to stay somewhat well within the recommended saturated fat ‘limit’. If that’s not too important to you, feel free to use 1 tablespoon of butter and 1/2 cup of cheese by all means.
