A friend asked if I was familiar with Bacon Bowties. I wasn’t sure what they were talking about and asked for further explanations. She said it’s an old Southern snack, where you take square leg crackers and wrap the center in a piece of bacon. As it slowly cooked in the oven, the bacon necked the cracker down the middle and it looked like a bow when done.
Although I had never heard of this savory treat known as a fly, I was very familiar with bacon-wrapped crackers.
