These Crispy Oven Roasted Chickpeas are the tastiest, crunchiest snack you will find anywhere.
I totally LOVE chickpeas! They are delicious and can be transformed into any type of kitchen. But honestly, sometimes I just eat them right out of the can.
Aside from their normal use in hummus, you’ll find chickpeas in soups, salads, pasta dishes, and my personal favorite, roasted as a snack.
Oven Roasted Chickpeas are a delicious savory snack that’s low in fat, high in fiber, high in protein and perfect for both kids and adults. Especially children with a nut allergy! They remind me of the corn nuts I ate as a kid but without all the preservatives.
My family is big on snacks. With 4 kids we go through a lot of food and they are always looking for something to nibble on.
This particular recipe uses Indian and Spanish spices. It’s a recipe I usually run to because it’s always a hit. Also, I usually have all the ingredients in my kitchen.
Depending on how spicy you like your food, you can add more or less cayenne pepper to the recipe. The addition of smoked paprika gives this snack a distinctively sweet and smoky flavor.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED?
- 2 15 oz. Canned chickpeas
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika powder
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Pinch of salt/pepper
- optional: 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
HOW DO I MAKE CRISPY OVEN ROASTED CHICKPEAS?
STEP 1: Drain the chickpeas from the can and let them dry:
To get them perfectly crispy and crispy every time, you need to give the chickpeas time to dry. I usually empty the cans and drain the chickpeas onto paper towels for about an hour. They don’t have to be completely dry, but the drier they are before they go in the oven, the crispier they will be.
STEP 2: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
STEP 3: Mix chickpeas with all other ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
STEP 4: Spread the seasoned chickpeas on a baking sheet. Bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Throw often.
STEP 5: Remove from oven and allow to cool. As the chickpeas cool, they will become crispier.
