I’ll show you my favorite way to make an incredibly flavorful ribeye AND tell you about my fun trip to Colorado with some awesome bloggers!
Retreat in the fresh air
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to fly to Breckenridge, Colorado and spend time with some great bloggers. I am incredibly fortunate to have a job that I love and that gives me the freedom to do things outside the box.
One of those things is being able to attend retreats like this #FreshAirRetreat in Colorado organized by Liz from The Lemon Bowl and Lauren from The Curious Plate.
These opportunities are amazing to me because I get to spend one on one conversations with a small group of like minded people who inspire me.
We had the opportunity to ask each other questions about work-related tasks and to talk about what helps our company and what doesn’t.
I’ve also met several brands and business owners. We were able to sit down with people from in an intimate panel setting USA pears and Beef. It’s what’s for dinner. This was very informative and helpful as a blogger to get insider knowledge of how things work from the brand’s perspective.
This retreat was a game changer for me. I’m so lucky to have been paired with lic, Lauren, Kristin, Brittany, Yvette, Tessaand Dan. They gave me such wonderful advice and I came home refreshed and ready to make some business changes.
At a food blogger event like this, you know there’s going to be good food! La Croix provided us with delicious mineral water. We even had the amazing Rasheed Phillips from Philip’s Barbecue Co. Make us an amazing beef dinner that inspired this recipe.
Rasheed uses a smoker (which I don’t have and it would probably take me years to figure that out lol!) so I decided to share my version of cooking my favorite ribeye.
But first, let’s talk a little about beef. It’s what’s for dinner. I love me a good ribeye steak!
How to cook an amazing ribeye steak
This cut of steak is rich, juicy and full-bodied with generous marbling. They are absolutely delicious.
Step 1: Season!
If you prepare a ribeye, you should make sure that it is well seasoned. You don’t need a lot of fancy flavors to make it taste amazing. Season on both sides with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Prepare your cast iron skillet
A cast iron skillet is my favorite way to cook ribeye steaks. The pan gets extremely hot and keeps the heat for a long time. You should preheat your pan over medium heat and add oil (I like to use avocado oil because it has a higher heat point). When it’s hot, add the meat!
Step 3: Sear the steak
Place the ribeyes in the pan and cook until they move easily. This takes between one and two minutes. Gently flip the steaks and place them in another part of the pan. When you get that golden crust, add the garlic, butter, rosemary, and sprigs of thyme.
Step 4: Cook as you like
Reduce heat to medium and cook until steaks are done to desired doneness. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing.
How long does it take to cook a steak in a cast iron skillet?
The steak should sit in the pan for about five minutes, depending on how cooked you want it to be. Preparing the meat and skillet takes a little effort, but cooking time is quick since you’re using a cast iron skillet.
How do you cook a medium rare steak in a cast iron skillet?
A medium-rare steak has a tenderness that melts in the mouth. It’s incredibly delicious!
Keep in mind that the ribeye will continue to cook a little after it’s removed from the pan, so aim for a few degrees below your desired temperature.
Have fun and let me know if you try this method!
