What we learned was amazing! Here are four ways to cook the breakfast cure in addition to the standard 1.5- to 2-quart slow cooker:
The four amazing ways to cook the breakfast cure
1. Standard Instant Pot
Mary only had a large pot and an Instant Pot. The large crockpot is not ideal for curing breakfast because it tends to dry out too quickly. He found, however, that the Instant Pot was perfect! She says, “The Instant Pot doesn’t lose much moisture even when venting, so 3 cups of water is enough. The low-temperature setting of slow-cooking overnight didn’t complete the cooking, but we tried the normal slow cook temperature setting and it was perfect!”
2. Instant pot with glass lid
Cindy uses a 6-quart Instant Pot on the low setting to slow cook for 12 hours with the glass lid on the Instant Pot. She writes, “When I first started doing the Breakfast Cure, I checked several times with a Thermapen and the temperature is about 173 degrees, so that’s perfect. I start it in the evening right after dinner and usually give it a couple of quick shuffles before bed and again in the morning when I wake up.” It seems easy to us!
3. Rice cooker Zojirushi NS-LHCO5
Does your rice cooker have a porridge setting? Kiyoko uses her rice cooker to make a cure for breakfast! This is another simple way to cook the breakfast cure. Simply add the recommended amount of water (or Kiyoko likes milk for extra creaminess!), set it to “porridge” and wake up to a warm, homemade breakfast with no prep or shopping.
4. Stove method
This traditional method isn’t as quick and easy as the others, but it’s perfect for trying the Breakfast Cure without any gadgets. The key is choosing the right flavors. Selecting recipes that are white rice will speed things up considerably. Both Mango and Sticky Rice and Masala Chai go together perfectly. If you want to go old school and use a saucepan and stir with a spoon, check out this blog post for detailed instructions.
