ingredients

  • Ground Turkey: Lower in fat and calories than red meat, but still a great source of protein.
  • Onion: White onions are mild in flavor but caramelize to add great flavor to the meatloaf.
  • Garlic: Earthy, nutty and aromatic that sweetens when cooked.
  • ROsmary: Aromatic, robust, woody flavor that can spice up many bland-tasting foods.
  • Thyme: Goes wonderfully with the rosemary flavor with its earthy, lemony taste.
  • BBQ seasoning: Use whatever brand you have to add more flavor to the turkey.
  • Worcester sauce: Gives the meatloaf a spicy, sweet and salty taste.
  • Protein: Helps hold the meatloaf together while reducing calories and fat by using only the egg whites.
  • breadcrumbs: Works with the egg whites to bind the meatloaf together.
  • Ketchup: The classic meatloaf sauce adds flavor but also helps keep the loaf from drying out.
  • Dijon mustard: Adds a little more nuance to the sauce.

Frequently asked Questions:

Is egg necessary in meatloaf?

The egg will help bind the loaf together so it doesn’t fall apart. If you can’t have eggs, you can try using an egg substitute like applesauce, gelatin, or xanthan gum.

Do you cover meatloaf when baking?

You can cook it open. However, depending on your oven, if you’ve had issues with burning items in the past, you can cover them with foil for the first half of baking and then remove them at the end.

What can you substitute for breadcrumbs in meatloaf?

You can use shredded crackers or pretzels, but if you must stay gluten-free, you can use an unsweetened cereal like cornflakes or rice chips.
