What Is Sriracha Sauce
Sriracha is a very popular condiment, often found in sushi restaurants, Thai restaurants and even hamburger joints. It’s comprised of red chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, salt and sugar. This thick bright red sauce is a powerhouse of flavors.
Huy Fong is by far our favorite brand, however it’s hard to come by these days due to manufacturing issues! If you found a different brand you enjoy, leave a comment below and let us all know!

Variations
While perfect as written, sometimes we like to mix it up a bit! Here are some variations to consider:
Sweet Sriracha Sauce – For a sweeter version, increase the amount of honey or add a touch of sugar. We add the bare minimum, as we like a heat-forward hot sauce vs. sweet-forward.
Uber Hot – For a spicier sauce, increase the amount of Sriracha or add some red pepper flakes or cayenne chili powder.
Marinade – To use as a marinade, in addition to a sauce or glaze, double the recipe. Just make sure to cool before adding to any protein as to avoid cooking it.
Expert Tips
- Watch the garlic as it toasts so it doesn’t burn. All it needs is 30-60 seconds until it’s done.
- The consistency of this sauce will thicken as it cools, so keep that in mind when simmering.
- Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
- We don’t recommend freezing. It takes a few minutes to re-make and you want top quality.
- To reheat in the microwave, heat for 15 seconds, remove and stir. Repeat in 15 second increments until your desired temperature is reached.
- To reheat on the stove, add the leftovers to a small saucepan over low heat and cook until your desired temp is reached.
Drink Pairings
Without knowing what recipe you’re using it in, it’s hard to pinpoint exact recommendations, so I’ll generalize. If using in a chicken recipe or seafood recipe, pair it with a Riesling, or Cabernet Sauvignon.
A Chelada or Michelada would also work, as they have many of the same flavor profiles.
