Light Mulled Wine – Nicky’s Kitchen Sanctuary

The simplest mulled wine – with fruit mulled tea bags instead of individual spices. This mulled wine has a wonderfully warming, spicy flavor with an added dash of apple schnapps!
Definitely only something for the grown-ups!

Whenever I used to go to a Christmas market, I always grabbed a mulled wine and really tried to like it. But to be honest I would find it a bit strong and sometimes too acidic.
Over the last few years I’ve found mulled wine to be a more common thing and I found it so much tastier!

Sweet, tangy, tangy and warming – the perfect drink to warm your hands and tummy on a cold winter’s day!

This is my quick and easy recipe – with mulled wine tea bags. It’s so much easier than fiddling with spice bags and squeezing out muslin.

📋 What do we need?

Full recipe with detailed steps in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • cider (Hard/Alcoholic Cider) – I like to use a nice fruity cider – like Misty Maid or Cornish Orchards
  • Apple juice – A good quality cloudy apple juice is best
  • apple brandy/Calvados
  • light brown sugar
  • Orange peel
  • Fruit glow tea bags (see my recommendations in the Recipe Card Notes section below)

🍽️ What to serve with it

I like to serve my mulled wine with clementine slices and a small handful of fresh cranberries. Don’t eat the cranberries though – they’re very pretty but definitely on the sour side raw!
