America’s 10 Best Hotels With Vegan Options

Traveling as a vegetarian has become easier than ever, especially since countless restaurants across the country have jumped on the vegan movement. Yet the concept of a completely vegan hotel is a relatively new phenomenon that extends to the food we eat, animal-free bedding, furniture, cleaning products and guest complimentary soaps and shampoos.

Hidden gems like the Stanford Inn in Northern California have run a vegan operation for 40 years, but with travelers calling for more transparency, higher sustainability standards and ethical business models, more vegan hotels and resorts are popping up to meet these demands.

For those who need to get away, here are seven vegan hotels and resorts from Hawaii to New York.

What makes a hotel vegetarian-friendly?

The accommodations listed below are extremely vegetarian-friendly, pet-friendly and eco-conscious. However, while not every travel destination may have a vegan bed and breakfast or luxury resort, some accommodations are more vegan-friendly than others.

When searching for a hotel, the first thing we do is go to the “Experience” or “Specials” tab. For example, St. Julien in Boulder, CO is not exclusively vegan, but offers a very vegan experience that cautions the hotel to ensure that your stay is compatible with your lifestyle, from food to mini bottles of hand lotion.

Another telltale sign of a vegetarian-friendly hotel is the inclusion of a dedicated vegetarian menu in one of the property restaurants. The Peninsula in Beverly Hills offers an entirely plant-based menu for dinner as well as compatible vegan options on its breakfast and lunch menus.

Where is the best place for a vegan vacation?

Although the list below is limited to vegetarian hotels in the United States, it is important to note that the travel and tourism industry is becoming more vegetarian-friendly around the world. For example, Santorini, Greece, became home to a new vegan boutique hotel in 2021. And in the same year, a new family-run, boutique vegan hotel opened in Costa Rica.
