  • Caesar dressing
  • Black pepper
  • Italian panko breadcrumbs

How to make Caesar Chicken

  • Season chicken. Season the chicken with black pepper and arrange in a casserole dish. I think there’s enough salt in the cheese and dressing so I don’t add any, but you can definitely add it if you want.
  • Pour over the dressing. While the chicken is in the pan, sprinkle on the parmesan cheese and even pour the dressing over the chicken. If necessary, you can spread it on the chicken with a spatula.
  • Add topping. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the chicken in a nice, even layer.
  • Bake. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the chicken is done. An instant read thermometer reads 165°F.

How long does it take to bake chicken breasts?

It really depends on how thick the chicken breast is. Standard grocery store chicken cuts have grown very thick, weighing nearly a pound each. I like to cut them into butterfly shapes (cut in half lengthwise) so I have 2 thinner chicken breasts. I use that for this recipe. They’re about to cook 25-30 minutes at 375°F.

The best way to know when the chicken is done is to take the temperature. It just has to be cook to 165°F. Many people are so concerned about undercooking that they dry it out and cook way too long. So use a thermometer to test your meat and you’ll end up with the best, juiciest and most tender chicken!

Can I use a different cut of chicken or meat?

Yes, you can also use boneless chicken thighs in this recipe. You really could Use any piece of chicken, even on the bone, but your cooking times will change quite a bit. If you’re in a hurry, chicken tenders work really well, they’re cut small enough and they cook a lot quicker!

Recipe tips and variations

  • Use full fat. I like to use full-fat Caesar dressing for this recipe. Sometimes the dressing can come off and get oily, and I find this tends to be the case with the lower-fat dressings. They contain more fluid, so it’s more common.
  • Keep the medium temperature. I often like to cook chicken at a higher temperature so it gets crispier outside, but when using a cream sauce you want to keep the temperature more moderate so the sauce doesn’t curdle and separate. 375° is about as high as I like to eat when making this recipe.
  • Mix in the cheese. The recipe calls for Parmesan cheese, it goes really well with a Chicken Caesar Salad, so why not use it here! But you can also use mozzarella or provolone, they tasted really good. You can make more of these and make a cheese dish out of them too. There is just enough flavor in this version.
  • Use a thermometer. The best way to know when the chicken is done is to test the temperature. You don’t have to have dry and overcooked chicken to know it’s safe to eat. Test the temperature and when it reads 165°F, remove from the oven to serve. It should be super juicy and tender.

I use the Thermapen Mk4 to check the temperature of the meat throughout the cooking process. It is the most accurate thermometer I have found and have used for years!

How to Store Leftover Baked Caesar Chicken

Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. You can reheat it in the microwave, but the sauce will start to come off. If you want to use the microwave, it is best to use 50% power to warm it up slowly.

It is best to bake it in the oven at 180ºC until warmed through.
