Dairy products company Dairyland, which claims to be Kenya’s ice cream leader for over 25 years, recently launched a new range of vegetarian ice cream.
To celebrate the new product, Dairyland launched a campaign called The Dairy-Free Dream, inviting those with lactose intolerance to the ultimate treat of their dreams. Soy-based, new The vegan ice cream range has five flavours: vanilla, strawberry, cappuccino, brownie and hazelnut.
The initiative allows Dairyland to meet the growing demands of consumers, especially dietary needs and values, while aligning the company with the global shift towards health, wellness and environmental awareness, local media outlet Pulse Live reported.
“Our vegan ice cream is a game-changer for lactose intolerant people. They can now indulge in their favorite frozen desserts without any restrictions. We have carefully developed flavors like Vanilla, Strawberry, Hazelnut, Cappuccino and Brownie, ensuring a rich and satisfying experience for our customers,” said Milan Kabata, Marketing Head, Dairyland.

The dream came true
Dairyland offers high quality products across various categories including yogurt, whipped cream, chocolate, sweets and topping sauces. The company has expanded its operations to Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan and Congo.
While there’s little news of a vegan launch in Kenya, a study last year by US-based North Mountain Consulting Group and South Africa’s Credence Institute found that four out of five Zs and millennials in Kenya are more likely to try plant-based meat. And while in Nigeria, Egypt, three in five are more likely to try.
Africa is historically susceptible to food security disruptions, and plant-based solutions can potentially increase food security. In May, Proveg International has opened its first office in Nigeria to raise awareness of plant-based foods and their benefits and showcase its culinary potential.
“We believe that dreams do come true, and with our new dairy-free vegan ice cream, we’re making the dream of enjoying ice cream a reality for the lactose-intolerant community. We are committed to providing exceptional products that not only satisfy our customers’ desires but also align with their dietary needs and values,” added Kabata.
