Sweet, sour, and slightly spicy, these Spicy Jalapeño Margaritas are the perfect cocktail recipe for entertaining or a date night.

It should come as no surprise that I’m a fan of moderation and entertainment. With that comes a love of anything that can be easily made in bulk or in advance. I love serving different drinks at my parties. So if I can make something in a pitcher the night before, it’s a success! These Spicy Jalapeño Margaritas are made with freshly squeezed orange juice, tangy lime juice, and jalapeño-infused simple syrup. We served them with ice cream but mixed them up would be just as delicious!
Ingredients
- Orange juice: Freshly squeezed for a great touch of citrus sweetness.
- lime juice: A touch of acidity that balances the sweet and spicy.
- Tequila: It is made from the blue agave plant and has a smooth, fruity, rich and earthy taste.
- Sugar: Melt with water to make an easy syrup that slightly sweetens and tones down the margarita’s spiciness.
- jalapeno: An easily accessible chili pepper, hot but mild enough that most can still tolerate the heat.
How to Make Spicy Jalapeño Margaritas

Start your flavorful jalapeño margaritas by making easy jalapeño syrup. Bring the water and sugar to a boil, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved.

Then add the slices of fresh jalapeño pepper. Remove from heat and let stand while it cools to room temperature.

Once cool, strain the simple syrup into a bowl or measuring cup.

While your simple syrup is cooling, juice your orange and place in a large pitcher.

Next, add your freshly squeezed lime juice to the pitcher.

Followed by your favorite tequila.

Then pour in the cooled plain jalapeño syrup.

Stir well (or shake if using a cocktail shaker).

If you like it a bit more, smear the rim of the glass with lime juice, then gently turn it on a plate with sugar and salt.

Place some ice in your glasses and pour the margarita mixture evenly into each glass.

If, like me, you like it a little fizzy, top up each rim with some sparkling water. I like to use lime flavored La Croix as it pairs well with the other flavors.

If you fancy, garnish with a lime or jalapeño wedge and enjoy your flavorful jalapeño margaritas!
Frequently asked Questions:
What is a spicy margarita made of?
Most spicy margaritas just throw in jalapeño to add variety and make it even better! However, you can use any hot pepper you like to create a spicier version of the drink.
What is the difference between a skinny margarita and a regular one?
A lean margarita has fewer calories and uses less sugar. Typically, the triple sec is replaced with a sugar-free alternative and fresh lime juice is used instead of a pre-made mix. Mine is kind of a cross between a regular margarita and a lean margarita.
Can You Make Jalapeño Margaritas Ahead?
Yes, this cocktail mix will keep in the fridge for up to a week!
