Ingredients for Steak Fajita Marinade
What ingredients go into the steak fajita marinade? There are some basic ingredients that usually form the basis of a fajita marinade, and we’ve added our own twist too! Here’s everything you need:
- Salsa Verde: We love the flavor that salsa verde brings to this marinade, but feel free to use any mixed salsa of your choice.
- Orange juice: a little orange juice will lighten this marinade and help tenderize the steak before you cook it.
- Worcester sauce: Many steak marinades contain Worcestershire, and this Steak Fajita Marinade is no exception. Because it’s a vinegar-based sauce that includes ingredients like anchovies, garlic, and tamarind, it makes a salty sauce that’s perfect with steak.
- lime zest: A freshly grated lime gives this marinade an amazingly tart and bright taste. Don’t skip it!
- Spices: We use classic fajita seasonings like chili powder, paprika powder, ground cumin, and garlic powder.
- Olive oil: The olive oil binds all the ingredients of the steak marinade together.
- Coarse sea salt: Salt helps to tenderize the meat when marinating 😀

How long should steaks marinate?
We recommend marinating the steak for at least 2 hours or even overnight. The longer you marinate steak, the more tender your steak will be. Unlike salmon, you can marinate steak a little longer without orange juice cooking the steak.

Marinating Steak for Fajitas (3 Steps)

Steak internal temp
Everyone is different when it comes to how they like their steak. We’re big fans of a medium-rare steak, but check the internal temperature of your steak when it’s almost done.
Rarely: 130ºF
Half done: 140ºF
Middle: 155ºF
Well done: 165ºF
Keep in mind that the internal temperature of your steak will continue to rise by about 5°F after cooking.
