What is baked oatmeal?
Baked oatmeal is a method of cooking oatmeal in which you combine oatmeal with eggs and milk and other flavorings and bake to create a muffin- or cake-like breakfast.
The texture is like a savory bread or muffin, and it pairs so well with toppings like peanut butter, honey, or fresh berries — or in this recipe, 3 flavors milk, cinnamon, and maple syrup. That texture also makes it a great on-the-go breakfast!

Ingredients for Tres Leches baked oatmeal
oatmeal
- Smashed Banana
- eggs
- vanilla extract
- maple syrup
- Unsweetened Oat Milk
- Fast cooking oats
- all purpose flour
- baking powder
- Cinammon
- Salt
Tres leches sauce
- condensed milk
- 2% milk
- oat milk
- maple syrup
- Cinammon
Optional toppings
- whipped cream
- Sliced strawberries

How to Make Tres Leches Baked Oatmeal
Prepare wet and dry ingredients
Mix all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl until combined. Then place all the wet ingredients in a separate bowl and add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix.
Bake oatmeal
Transfer batter to an 8×8-inch baking pan and bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes or until the top begins to brown. If the center of the oatmeal casserole does not bake, cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake an additional 5 minutes.
Prepare Tres Leches sauce
While the oatmeal casserole is cooling, heat all the ingredients for the tres leches in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer before removing from heat.
Slice & serve!
Cut the oatmeal casserole into squares and serve in a bowl with 1-2 tablespoons of the tres leches and garnish with whipped cream, fresh berries or vanilla Greek yogurt. Enjoy!

Can you use old-fashioned oatmeal for Tres Leches Baked Oatmeal? Be sure to use quick-cooking oats. Tested with rolled oats, this recipe completely changes the texture and cook time.
Wait to add the tres leches sauce: Wait to add the Tres Leches sauce until you are ready to serve your Tres Leches Baked Oats. Nobody wants a soggy piece of oatmeal cake!
For leftovers: Be sure to store the tres leches sauce separate from the oatmeal casserole. Reheat the oatmeal and sauce before serving.

Once your baked oatmeal has completely cooled, we recommend cutting it into individual portions and placing in an airtight container.
Store your baked oatmeal in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. While you can leave your baked oatmeal overnight, it will last much longer in the fridge.
We recommend waiting to pour the Tres Leches sauce over the baked oats until they are ready to serve.
Freeze: To freeze these tres leches baked oatmeal, let it cool completely. Then wrap it tightly with a piece of aluminum foil, removing as much air as possible. Freeze up to 3 months. Wait to add the Tres Leches sauce until ready to serve.
