What are orange rolls?

Similar to cinnamon rolls, orange rolls are chewy, sweet and warm. Instead of cinnamon sugar, we use a lemony and lightly spiced sugar filling. Plus, they’re topped with an orange cream cheese frosting!

Despite the time it takes to prepare these treats, they make a great breakfast, snack, or dessert. Yes you have to wait for the dough to rise and yes you have to fill them and then wait again but after all that I promise it’s worth it!

Orange Rolls consist of three components, the dough, the filling and the frosting! For full details on how to make these incredible Orange Buns, including ingredients and increments needed, see the printable recipe card below. Here’s exactly step-by-step what to expect:

proof yeast

Stir in the bowl of a stand mixer warm water along with yeast and 6 tablespoons of sugar. After a few minutes, the mixture should be fluffy. (If it isn’t fluffy and bubbly after about 10 minutes, discard it and start this process again.)

Add the remaining dough ingredients as follows

Add remaining sugar And 2 cups flour and start mixing with the dough hook attachment. stir in melted butter And Salt. Add another 1-2 cups flour and let the machine work to knead it into the dough. Storage of orange rolls

I like to keep my baked and frozen orange rolls well covered with plastic wrap Room temperature up to 24 hours.

You can last up to 48 hours in the fridge, but I prefer to serve mine warm and fresh when they’re at their peak softness, and unfortunately they don’t stay that way for more than 48 hours.

Can I Freeze Orange Rolls?

Yes! You can freeze orange rolls baked or unbaked.

When baked: Cool them completely on a rack, wrap well and store in the freezer.

If unbaked: Once the buns are assembled and sliced, place them in a pan, cover and freeze.

Bake After Freezing: Thaw overnight and bake according to recipe instructions.
