Last weekend, Mission Coffee Co. offered a preview of their new cafe and coffee shop on the south side of Columbus. Mission has merged with Blank Slate Coffee, which operated as a truck in downtown Gahanna for seven years before closing and relocating.

With some personnel changes, Mission continues in its space, pouring coffee and serving coffee and espresso drinks from the old Blank Slate truck parked out front. The two companies have had a long-standing connection, as Blank Slate was Mission’s first wholesale account.

Although the space is still a bit rough, it is already a cozy place with tables, counters, sofas.

The cafe’s location is smart, as it sits next to The Fort, the City Winery location opening this summer, and the recently announced Steelton Village development. The district should continue to grow around Mission.

Mission is still roasting, so you can find their beans in store and around town.

Over the weekend they offered a preview of the space to anyone who bought a bag of their special blend 2060. Based on their South High Street address, the blend includes 20% microlots from Kenya , 60% natural Ethiopian and 20% of a secret addition. “It’s magic,” they said.

Congratulations to the Mission team for getting the store up and running! I can’t wait to see how it grows from here.

They said they plan to hold a full grand opening next weekend, so look for more details on that.
