Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or unknown finds? Here are five restaurants I suggest you try this month!

1. Kitchen of Hoyo
Columbus has some great Somali restaurants, but Hoyo’s Kitchen is one of the best. The family-run stand operates from both North Market locations. They let you build your own bowls with rice, lentils, chicken, beef, vegetables and fluffy injera. It is a very colorful and tasty meal.

2. Torchy’s Tacos
Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos is just getting into central Ohio, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. We’ve made several visits to their Polaris store for chorizo-rich queso, hearty sauces, well-constructed tacos, and tortilla-laden breakfast tacos. They are also adding locations in Dublin and Gahanna!

Columbus, OH 43240

3. On the counter
Even though we live near Over the Counter, we take it for granted. Nodding to the building’s history as a former pharmacy, the bar and restaurant has the cure for what ails you: good company, lots of drinks, weekend lunches and hearty lunches and dinners like reubens, fish and chips, burgers, fried bologna sandwiches, fried pickles!
On the counter
5596 N. High St.
Worthington, OH 43085

4. Pub and patio outside the center
Tucked away on a side street in an unassuming, low-ceilinged space, Hilliard’s Off Center Pub & Patio has long been known for its pizzas. Now the new owners have kept the pizzas and improved them by introducing Puerto Rican dishes. We had a taste during a Columbus Food Adventures party and were impressed. Try the tostones, stuffed tostones or the pizza with pine nuts and bananas!

5. Bonus to Budd
Boni at Budd is a branch of the great Filipino restaurant Bonifacio. The market stall features a new menu of Filipino street food such as chicken adobo or pork belly bowls, different skewered meats and lumpia spring rolls.
