5 Minute Tinned Mashed Potato – My Fussy Eater

Make mashed potatoes at home in just 5 minutes using a tin of cooked potatoes. Brilliant for speedy mid-week dinners

My kids love a sausage and mash dinner but mid-week it can feel like a bit of a faff peeling, chopping and cooking potatoes to make the mash.

So here’s a little shortcut I use sometimes to make mash potatoes in just 5 minutes.

I use tinned potatoes which are already peeled and cooked.

I bought them from Sainsbury and they’re only 37p but most supermarkets do a similar own-brand version too.

They’re great to cook in the oven or airfryer for speedy roast potatoes but today of course we’re going to use them to make a super quick mash potato.

Firstly drain the potatoes to remove the water that they are canned in.

Next, add them to a small saucepan with some milk.

Simmer on high for 4 minutes until the milk is warmed through.

Mash the potatoes until they are all broken up and you have removed as much as the lumps as possible.

Finally, add some butter to help make them extra tasty!

I usually serve them with sausages cooked in the airfryer and frozen peas cooked in the microwave.

The kids love this for a comforting mid-week meal after school.

Product Recommendations

This way of making mashed potatoes does not give you super smooth mash. If your kids will only eat it really smooth then I would recommend using a Potato Ricer to get remove the last of the lumps.

5 Minute Tinned Mashed Potato


Description

Ingredients

  • 1 tin (345g drained weight) cooked potatoes
  • 125ml milk
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Drain the potatoes and add to a saucepan with the milk.
  2. Simmer on high for 4 minutes and then mash the potatoes into the milk with a potato masher.
  3. Add the butter and mix well.
  4. Serve as is or if you prefer very smooth mash, use a potato ricer or electric masher.

Notes

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheated on the hob or in the microwave.
