5 high calorie breakfast ideas

There are several techniques you can use to help you achieve your high-calorie breakfast goal. One is to choose high-calorie foods, add some liquid calories to your meal, split up your breakfast, or increase portion size. You’ll end up with five high-calorie breakfast ideas that use these different strategies.

Just because your goal is to increase the calories in your breakfast doesn’t mean it has to be unhealthy. With these different methods, you can eat healthily and work towards your goals at the same time.

Calorie Dense Foods

Some foods are considered high in calories and others as high in nutrients. Being one doesn’t mean they can’t be the other, but you are looking high calorie foods.

Calorie dense foods are high calorie foods with a small portion size. Some great high-calorie breakfast options include: avocado, cheese, protein powder, whole milk, nuts, and butter.

Drinking calories is an easy way to add calories to your meals. This could be a glass JuiceA Bar, or a smoothies! All are easy to consume on the go and help you reach your goals faster.

Split your breakfast

One way to get more calories in your breakfast is to eat two of them! If you’re having a hard time eating a decent breakfast in the morning, plan to have one serving of your breakfast upon waking and another serving mid-morning.

Not having to eat so much while sitting down can be less intimidating. It may be easier on your digestive system too!

Make simple swaps

There are SO MANY simple swaps you can do to increase the number of calories in your breakfast without even realizing it!

  • Take whole milk: Swap milk you use for cereal, coffee or other items for whole milk. It has more calories than the milk you are currently using. Also, it contains many essential nutrients that are good for you. Even better? It makes a dreamy creamy latte.
  • Change bread: toast for breakfast? Opt for a tasty bagel instead.
  • Yoghurt selection: There are some yogurts that are low in calories. These are great for some people, but if you’re trying to increase your calorie intake, they’re not ideal. Choose a rich yogurt with at least 140 calories per serving. You really won’t notice the difference!

Increase the portion size

If you’ve tried increasing the calories in your breakfast, I’m sure you’ve already tried “just eating more.” Understandably, this can be a difficult task. Slowly increase your portion size by just one bite or tablespoon each week. Increasing the portion size is better than not increasing the portion size!

Oatmeal with fruit and peanut butter

For a high-calorie breakfast, be sure to have something at least 1/2 cup oatmeal. Boil it with whole milk and then add any desired ingredients. Add fruits, nuts, seeds, granola, nut butters, honey, agave, yogurt…anything, really!

One tip for squeezing in extra calories (and protein) is to mix 1 scoop of protein powder and/or nut butter into your oatmeal when it’s warm. It melts right in and you won’t even notice.

Omelettes aren’t typically considered high-calorie breakfasts, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be! If you’re making an omelet, be sure to use the quite Egg (and maybe one more than usual), add meat like ham or bacon, cheese and top it off with some avocado!

Don’t forget to pair your omelet with a piece of toast or two!

Turn a yogurt parfait into a high-calorie breakfast by using whole milk yogurt, fruit, granola, and additional toppings.

This will likely add more granola than you normally would. This is the most calorie-dense aspect of this meal, so be sure to add as much as you can!

Breakfast burritos are a fantastic way to make a high calorie breakfast! You can seriously add almost anything you like and wrap it in a tortilla to take with you on the go.

Add scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese, spinach, avocado, sausage and maybe even some black beans! Burritos are so much fun because they can be styled in different ways every. singles. Day.
