Material notes

- tahini : Use store-bought or homemade tahini. Good quality tahini should be smooth, easy to drizzle (not too thick) and have an earthy flavor that is not overly bitter.
- cocoa: raw Cocoa powder or regularly Cocoa powder Both work great here.
- the dates: Use any variety as long as they are soft and moist. If you only have dried dates, we’ll soak them below so you can use them in this recipe, although for best results, I’d recommend using gooey dates instead of soaked dates.
- extra: To enhance the flavor, try a good pinch of salt and a dash of vanilla. cinnamon Would be very yummy!
Variations and additions
- Coat in chocolate: To make them into fancy chocolate truffles, try coating them or drizzling them with melted chocolate.
- Chocolate Orange Bites: Add up to 1 tablespoon orange zest for a citrus twist.
- Add the nuts: You can add up to 3/4 cup of crushed walnuts, pecans, almonds, pecans or cashews. Add them to the food processor first to break them into small pieces.
- Add the seeds: For added nutrition and texture, try adding up to 1/2 cup of flax seeds.
- Peanut Butter Chocolate: Use peanut butter instead of tahini for Peanut Butter Chocolate Date Balls. Almond butter works too or you can use sunflower seed butter for another nut-free option.
- Chocolate Mint Bites: Add a few drops of peppermint extract for a chocolate peppermint bite. This would be perfect for the holidays or an edible gift.
- spices: Try 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and/or a pinch of ginger or nutmeg. You can add a pinch of red pepper to add a subtle kick!
Step by step instructions
Before you begin, evaluate your dates. You will need a soft and moist palm to hold the balls together. Medjugal date Or sear dates usually work well without the need for soaking.
If you think your dates are too dry, soak them (pitted) in hot water for 10 minutes then rinse well before using in the recipe. I prefer to use soft dates instead of soaked dates for making energy balls because soaked dates are sometimes added. very too much moisture
Step 1: Mix the flour
Add the dates, cocoa powder and tahini to a food processor and blend to a thick, sticky dough that you can press together between your fingers. If you add any extras, mix them in now.
If the mixture forms into a big ball food processorIt’s perfect!
Quick Instructions: You should have no problem forming the dough into balls, but if it seems too crumbly to roll, add 1 teaspoon of hot water and process again. Check to see if you can press it together and if not, repeat. You won’t need more than 1 tablespoon of water.

Step 2: Roll into balls
Use your hands to roll the dough into balls. Any size works but used about 1 heaping tablespoon per ball and the recipe yielded 15 balls.
If you want, you can roll each ball Cocoa powderShredded coconut, cookie crumbs or crushed nuts for an extra touch.

Recipe FAQs
Yes, you can double the recipe, however, I would recommend making it in two batches or it may be too much for your food processor to handle.
You can use any other seed butter or nut butter like sunflower seed butter, peanut butter, cashew butter or almond butter just remember it will change the taste of the balls.
