That's where Karin Okada's jazz takes you.
vocalist/composer karin okada is a winner of betty carter's jazz ahead, scholarship recipient of the BMI jazz composer's workshop, and recipient of o-ta best musician's award.
Born in Japan, Karin was raised in England from the age of 13. By 18 years of age, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts and attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
Currently based in New York City, Karin trained under jazz legends Sir Roland Hanna and Sheila Jordan as well as Carnegie Hall big band arranger Mike Mossman.
Karin brings her personal renditions to a repertoire that includes popular composers such as Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Her original compositions emulate modern jazz greats like Wayne Shorter, while her voice resonates in those heart-felt emotions so common to us all.
